Paleochristian period
The first centuries of the establishment of Christianity are referred to as "the paleochristian period". During this period, the city of Hersonissos enjoyed a dominant position and was among the most important cities of Crete, along with Knossos, Gortyna.
The most important monuments of this period are paleochristian basilicas:

- Basilica Piskopiani
